Bombay High Court Halts Release of ‘Shaadi Ke Director Karan Aur Johar’ After Karan Johar’s Plea

On Thursday, the Bombay High Court issued an order restraining the release of the film ‘Shaadi Ke Director Karan Aur Johar’ and any related promotional material. This decision came after the court found a strong prima facie case suggesting that the filmmakers had made unauthorized use of filmmaker Karan Johar’s name and persona. The matter has been adjourned to July 10 for further proceedings.

Karan Johar’s Legal Action

Filmmaker Karan Johar took legal action against the producers of ‘Shaadi Ke Director Karan Aur Johar,’ alleging that they had unlawfully used his name in the movie’s title. His team confirmed the lawsuit, emphasizing that Johar had not authorized the use of his name in any form. The plea specifically targets IndiaPride Advisory, producer Sanjay Singh, and writer-director Bablu Singh.

Court’s Decision

The court’s interim order halts the film’s release, which was originally scheduled for June 14. This injunction also extends to any promotional activities involving the film until the next hearing. The court’s swift action underscores the seriousness of the claims made by Karan Johar.

Karan Johar’s Upcoming Projects

Meanwhile, Karan Johar is preparing for the release of his next film, ‘Kill.’ The trailer for ‘Kill’ was recently unveiled, showcasing a gripping narrative. The film, directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat and produced by Karan Johar, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2023, where it received acclaim for its intense action sequences. ‘Kill’ is set to hit theaters on July 5, 2024.

‘Kill’ Film Details

‘Kill’ stars Lakshya and Tanya Maniktala, with Raghav Juyal in a significant role.
