May 16, 2025: After the monumental success of Parasite, Oscar-winning director Bong Joon Ho is back with his highly anticipated sci-fi film Mickey 17, which will premiere globally on Max on May 23, followed by a linear debut on HBO on May 24, according to Deadline.
Based on Edward Ashton’s 2022 novel Mickey7, the film is a cerebral, high-concept thriller compared to The Martian and Dark Matter. Bong not only directed the film but also adapted the screenplay, marking his first feature since Parasite, the first non-English film to win the Best Picture Oscar.
Robert Pattinson stars as Mickey Barnes, an “expendable” crew member sent on a mission to colonize an ice planet. In this dystopian future, Mickey’s consciousness is transferred to a clone each time he dies—until one day, he meets his successor: Mickey 18. The film explores identity, survival, and humanity through a mind-bending narrative.
The cast also includes:
- Steven Yeun
- Naomi Ackie
- Toni Collette
- Mark Ruffalo
Produced by Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner alongside Bong Joon Ho and Dooho Choi, the film also lists Brad Pitt, Jesse Ehrman, Peter Dodd, and Marianne Jenkins as executive producers.
With Mickey 17, Bong brings his signature blend of genre-bending storytelling and philosophical depth, promising audiences another unforgettable cinematic experience.
