Border 2 Opens Big, Piracy Worries Loom
Sunny Deol-starrer sees massive advance sales as illegal downloads surface
January 23, 2026: Border 2, Bollywood’s first major theatrical release of 2026, has hit cinemas amid huge buzz and expectations. The Sunny Deol-led war drama, directed by Anurag Singh, has released on nearly 4,800 screens with around 17,000 shows across India. Trade estimates suggest the film sold over four lakh tickets in advance, earning ₹12.5 crore before release, and is expected to collect ₹35–40 crore on Day 1, boosted by the Republic Day weekend and strong patriotic appeal.
However, alongside its strong opening, concerns over online piracy have emerged. Within hours of release, searches for illegal downloads such as “Border 2 Tamilrockers download” and “Border 2 full movie free” began trending online. Piracy platforms are known to leak films in multiple formats, with links often circulated through messaging apps, posing a serious threat to box office performance during a crucial opening weekend.
Illegal downloading or viewing of pirated films is a punishable offence under Indian copyright law, carrying fines of up to ₹2 lakh and possible jail terms for repeat offenders. Apart from legal risks, piracy sites expose users to cyber threats like malware and data theft, while also harming the livelihoods of thousands of film industry workers. Viewers are urged to watch Border 2 only through authorised cinema halls and official platforms to support the industry and its creators.
