Morning shows cancelled in several cities due to delayed content delivery

January 23, 2026: Sunny Deol’s much-anticipated war drama Border 2 hit theatres on January 23, but its release day faced a setback in several cities as early morning shows were cancelled due to technical delays. While theatres in many regions had scheduled shows as early as 7:30 am and 8 am amid strong buzz, audiences in some locations were left disappointed after last-minute cancellations linked to delayed content dispatch.

According to trade reports, the film was not ready for delivery to cinemas until late Thursday night. Digital cinema platforms, including UFO Moviez, informed exhibitors that downloads would begin much later than planned. Owing to the film’s lengthy runtime of 192 minutes, the download and processing time stretched to three to four hours, forcing theatres to cancel 8 am and 9 am shows and reschedule the first screenings for around 10 am.

Despite the disruption, Border 2 continues to show strong box office momentum. Industry insiders believe the patriotic theme and positive anticipation will help recover losses, especially over the Republic Day weekend. As per Sacnilk data, the film clocked ₹12.5 crore in advance bookings, selling over 4.09 lakh tickets across more than 16,000 shows nationwide in formats including 2D, IMAX 2D, 4DX and Dolby Cinema.
