Sunny Deol-starrer crosses Rs 200 crore despite slowdown, night shows perform best

January 29, 2026: Sunny Deol’s Border 2 witnessed a slowdown at the box office after a robust opening and extended Republic Day weekend run. The film debuted with Rs 30 crore on Friday, surged over the weekend to collect Rs 54.5 crore on Sunday, and peaked at Rs 59 crore on Monday. However, collections dipped sharply midweek, with early estimates for Wednesday pegged at around Rs 13 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.

Despite the drop, the film has already crossed the Rs 200 crore mark and continues to eye entry into the Rs 300 crore club. Occupancy figures on Day 6 reflected a gradual rise through the day, starting at 7.52 per cent in morning shows and peaking at 22.50 per cent during night shows. Jaipur led major centres with the highest occupancy, followed by Chennai and Lucknow, while cities like Mumbai, Pune and Bengaluru recorded moderate footfalls.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh has declared Border 2 a blockbuster, highlighting its strong performance on a regular working Tuesday without discounted ticket pricing. Directed by Anurag Singh, the film is a sequel to JP Dutta’s 1997 war classic Border and is produced by T-Series Films and JP Films. Set against the backdrop of the 1971 India-Pakistan war, the film features a star-studded cast including Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty.
