Sunny Deol–Varun Dhawan–Diljit Dosanjh film races toward blockbuster status
January 27, 2026: Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan and Diljit Dosanjh’s Border 2 has created history at the box office with a record-breaking Republic Day performance. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 59 crore in a single day, pushing its India collection to Rs 180 crore, while the four-day worldwide gross touched Rs 247.20 crore. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh pegged the domestic total even higher at Rs 193.48 crore, underlining the film’s massive momentum.
The film has surpassed previous Republic Day releases such as Pathaan, Fighter and Sky Force, emerging as the biggest holiday opener to date. Made on a reported budget of Rs 275 crore, Border 2 has already recovered nearly 70 per cent of its cost and is expected to turn profitable soon. On January 26, the film recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of 64.27 per cent, with afternoon and evening shows nearing 80 per cent occupancy across theatres.
Directed by Anurag Singh and produced by T-Series and JP Films, Border 2 released on January 23 and is inspired by the 1971 India–Pakistan war. The sequel to the 1997 classic Border showcases the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force, and features an emotional tribute to Dharmendra with Sunny Deol’s introduction. The film will stream on Netflix after its theatrical run, while Sunny Deol continues his strong box office streak following the success of Gadar 2.
