October 9, 2024: Superstar Rajinikanth’s much-anticipated film Vettaiyan is set for a worldwide theatrical release tomorrow. Directed by TJ Gnanavel, the movie will also see a Telugu release, though pre-release buzz in the Telugu-speaking regions has been underwhelming. With bookings falling short of expectations, the film’s success might depend heavily on positive word of mouth post-release.
Despite the low initial interest, the film features an impressive ensemble cast, including Amitabh Bachchan, Rana Daggubati, Fahadh Faasil, Manju Warrier, and Ritika Singh. Produced by Lyca Productions, Vettaiyan boasts music by the ever-popular Anirudh Ravichander, which has sparked excitement in other markets.
At the movie’s audio release event, Rajinikanth charmed the audience with a humble and humorous take on his acting career. The iconic actor modestly stated that his success is largely due to his talented directors rather than his own acting skills. In a 40-minute speech, Rajinikanth also shared stories about his early hesitation to work with Vettaiyan director TJ Gnanavel, citing his gratitude to directors like Mahendran, SP Muthuraman, and Mani Ratnam for shaping his career.
He humorously said, “If people think I’m a good actor, it’s because of directors like them. You’ve only seen the okay takes, but you don’t know what went on behind the scenes,” adding a touch of self-deprecating humor to his address.
With its stellar cast and Rajinikanth’s enduring appeal, Vettaiyan still holds promise for a strong box office showing, especially if positive feedback rolls in after its release.
