The release of the Singham Again trailer has ignited widespread reactions, particularly surrounding its heavy Ramayana references, sparking an online debate. While some fans hailed director Rohit Shetty for cleverly incorporating elements from the epic, others weren’t as impressed, comparing it to past cinematic adaptations.
In the trailer, Shetty draws distinct parallels between the film’s characters and the Ramayana. Ajay Devgn’s Bajirao Singham and Kareena Kapoor’s Avni Kamat are seen as representations of Ram and Sita, with Tiger Shroff’s Satya embodying Lakshman. Meanwhile, Ranveer Singh’s Simmba is depicted as Hanuman, Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi takes the role of Jayatu, and Arjun Kapoor’s character, Danger Lanka, plays Ravan.
Many viewers took to social media to express their views, with one person on X (formerly Twitter) stating, “Rohit Shetty showed a better Ramayana than Om Raut in this 5-minute trailer.”
Another added, “Rohit Shetty’s Vision of Ramayan is greater than the entire Adipurush movie by Om Raut.” Others felt the references were forced, with one fan remarking, “Mani Ratnam’s Raavanan did a much better job than this.”
Deepika Padukone as Ahalya? In a surprising twist, some viewers believe Deepika Padukone’s character subtly represents Ahalya, though this wasn’t made obvious in the trailer. A fan tweeted, “Deepika Padukone as Ahalya (cry emoji),” leaving fans speculating about her role.
Kareena Kapoor’s Nostalgic CID Moment Steals the Show Apart from the epic references, Kareena Kapoor and Dayanand Shetty delivered a nostalgic punch that sent social media users into a frenzy. In one of the film’s action sequences, Kareena yells, “Daya, darwaza tod,” in a nod to Shetty’s iconic character from CID. Fans quickly picked up on the reference, with one person writing, “Best part was ‘Daya darwaza tod,’” and another commenting, “Full star-studded movie with ‘Daya darwaza tod’ as the highlight!”
However, not everyone enjoyed the throwback moment. One Reddit user criticised it as cringeworthy, stating, “I cringed when Kareena said ‘Daya darwaza tod.’ It was the only laughable dialogue.”
Mixed Reactions to Ramayana References The trailer received divided reactions overall. Some praised Arjun Kapoor’s portrayal of the antagonist, with one viewer calling it his “redemption arc.” Others, however, were disappointed, with one person lamenting, “I had high hopes for Singham Again, but it seems like a cringefest with bad acting, mediocre VFX, and unnecessary Ramayana references.”
Despite mixed reviews, Deepika Padukone’s fans were thrilled with her appearance, dubbing her the “queen” of the trailer and eagerly awaiting the film’s release.
Singham Again is slated for release on November 1, just in time for Diwali.
