Box Office Week-2: Vettaiyan, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, and Jigra Earnings

October 19, 2024: Three highly anticipated films—Vettaiyan, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, and Jigra—hit theaters during the Dussehra weekend, but none have lived up to box office expectations, with collections steadily declining over the past week.

Vettaiyan: Estimated Budget Rs. 300 Crores, Earnings so far in India (Box Office) Rs. 126 Crore

Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan, made on an estimated budget of Rs. 300 crore, saw another 25% drop in sales on its ninth day, continuing its downward trend. After a strong opening, the film’s momentum has slowed, with negative word-of-mouth taking its toll. As of Day 9, Vettaiyan is estimated to have earned between Rs 2.30-2.45 crore. The total collection now stands around Rs 126 crore, putting the film in danger of missing the Rs 150 crore milestone in its lifetime run. Despite starring legends Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan, the film has struggled to maintain audience interest, especially with competition from Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video and Jigra.

Day-wise breakdown of Vettaiyan (all languages):

  • Day 1: 32 crores
  • Day 2: 24 crores
  • Day 3: 27 crores
  • Day 4: 23 crores
  • Day 5: 5.35 crores
  • Day 6: 4.41 crores
  • Day 7: 4.17 crores
  • Day 8: 3.10 crores
  • Day 9: 2.30-2.45 crores (estimated)

Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video: Estimated Budget Rs. 30 Crores, Earnings so far in India (Box Office) Rs. 28 Crore

Meanwhile, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, made on a smaller budget of Rs. 30 crore, has performed relatively well. The film, starring Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri, has enjoyed a steady run and is on track to cross the Rs 30 crore mark. With positive word-of-mouth and strong performances from the lead cast, the film has managed to hold its ground at the box office, collecting an estimated Rs 28.4 crore net in its first 8 days.

Despite clashing with Jigra, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video took the lead early on and continues to draw audiences. With Friday’s collections of Rs 1.35 crore, the film’s total now stands at Rs 28.35 crore net. The film’s unique storyline and strong performances by Rajkummar and Triptii, along with Mallika Sherawat and Vijay Raaz, have played a crucial role in its success.

Jigra: Estimated Budget Rs. 80 Crores, Earnings so far in India (Box Office) Rs. 23 Crore

In contrast, Jigra, starring Alia Bhatt, has struggled to maintain momentum. Made on an estimated budget of Rs. 80 crore, the film has only managed to collect Rs 23.60 crore in its first 8 days, with Day 8 seeing its lowest collection of Rs 1.15 crore. Despite Alia’s star power, the film has failed to connect with a broader audience and is now one of her lowest box office performers. Alia Bhatt has since moved on to her next project, Alpha, currently being filmed in Kashmir.

These three films will have one more week to perform before facing stiff competition from Venom: The Last Dance, which is set to release on October 24. Following that, the Diwali box office will witness an epic showdown between Singham Again, starring Ajay Devgn, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, led by Kartik Aaryan.
