The film starring Will Arnett, Laura Dern, Andra Day, and Sean Hayes will premiere at New York Film Festival before hitting theatres in December 2025
Washington DC, August 27: Hollywood actor-filmmaker Bradley Cooper is back in the director’s chair, and this time he is blending heartbreak with humor. On Tuesday, Searchlight Pictures dropped the much-awaited trailer of Cooper’s upcoming film ‘Is This Thing On?’, a comedy-drama inspired by the life of British comedian John Bishop.
The film stars Will Arnett, Laura Dern, Andra Day, and Sean Hayes in key roles, with Cooper not only directing but also co-writing and producing the project.
According to Variety, the story follows Alex (Arnett), a father of two, navigating life after a painful marital breakup. In an unexpected turn, Alex throws himself into the world of stand-up comedy in New York City’s West Village, a leap that brings both laughter and poignant self-discovery.
Searchlight Pictures shared the trailer on Instagram, giving fans a first glimpse of this deeply human tale. Though the exact date is under wraps, the film is confirmed for a December 2025 theatrical release.
Before its global run, ‘Is This Thing On?’ will enjoy a prestigious world premiere at the New York Film Festival, closing the event on October 10 at the iconic Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center.
Written by Bradley Cooper, Mark Chappell, and Will Arnett, the film also sees Cooper teaming up with producers Weston Middleton, Arnett, and Kris Thykier under his Lea Pictures banner.
This project marks Cooper’s third directorial venture after his critically acclaimed ‘A Star Is Born’ and last year’s ‘Maestro’. As an actor, his versatility has shone in films like Silver Linings Playbook, American Sniper, and American Hustle.
With its raw emotions, humor-laced storytelling, and powerhouse cast, ‘Is This Thing On?’ is shaping up to be a must-watch blend of comedy and catharsis.
