“Can Melanie Griffith’s Plan Really Save Dakota And Chris Martin’s Relationship?”
July 06, 2025: Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin have reportedly ended their nearly eight-year on-and-off relationship, and the breakup is said to have taken an emotional toll on both. While early reports painted it as a mutual decision, sources now suggest the split has been especially rough.
Johnson’s mother, actress Melanie Griffith, isn’t ready to accept the breakup and is reportedly working behind the scenes to help them reconcile. According to a Daily Mail insider, Griffith believes her daughter and the Coldplay frontman are meant to be together, saying Dakota is “making a huge mistake” by letting the relationship end and needs to “meet Chris halfway.”
Griffith, who has long considered Martin “like a son,” is encouraging the couple to attend therapy and is even exploring spiritual approaches. She’s reportedly sought guidance from friends in Malibu’s healing community and is pushing them to work with a non-traditional therapist who uses energy work to address underlying issues like generational trauma.

Johnson and Martin first sparked romance rumors in 2017 and were believed to have gotten engaged in 2020, though their relationship has seen ups and downs over the years. Breakup rumors previously swirled in August 2024, but a rep at the time insisted they were “happily together.” Despite past challenges, Griffith is convinced they’re soulmates and hopes to bring them back together.
