‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Inches Closer to Beating ‘Black Adam’ at the North American Box Office!

Despite underwhelming Marvel standards, the Anthony Mackie starrer benefits from a lack of competition and eyes the $176.7M milestone.

March 8, 2025: ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Nears $168M at North American Box Office, Set to Overtake ‘Black Adam’ Soon!

The latest Marvel installment featuring Anthony Mackie as Captain America continues its box office journey, benefiting from minimal competition.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ may not be breaking records like its predecessors, but it is steadily climbing the box office charts due to a lack of stiff competition. The film is now on the verge of surpassing ‘Black Adam’s’ lifetime domestic total of $168.2M and is setting sights on beating ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ ($176.7M).

Box Office Breakdown & Comparisons

According to box office analyst Luiz Fernando, the film earned $1 million on its third Wednesday, registering a 34.4% drop from the previous week.

While these numbers fall short of past Captain America films, the movie outperformed other Presidents’ Day weekend releases like:
Sonic The Hedgehog – $893K
Fifty Shades of Grey – $813K
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania – $871K

However, it trails behind major hits like:
Captain America: Civil War – $2.3M
Black Panther – $3.9M
Deadpool – $2.2M

As of now, ‘Brave New World’ has grossed $167.2M domestically, nearly surpassing ‘Black Adam’ ($168.2M). By the weekend, it is expected to cross ‘The First Avenger’ ($176.7M) but still falls far behind Marvel’s usual standards.

Future Box Office Prospects

With minimal competition, the film is expected to earn between $195M and $215M in its domestic run. However, its underwhelming performance for a Marvel film is evident. The arrival of ‘Snow White’ in three weeks could cut short its momentum.

While not a box office disaster, the lukewarm performance of ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ reflects a declining trend for Marvel films post-Endgame. With competition on the horizon, it remains to be seen whether the film can push past the $200M milestone.
