‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Sees Sharp Drop on First Monday at Indian Box Office
February 18, 2025: ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Struggles in India After Strong Opening Weekend
The latest Marvel Studios film, ‘Captain America: Brave New World’, starring Anthony Mackie, faced a significant drop at the Indian box office on Day 4 (Monday). Despite an impressive global opening of $192.4 million, the film saw a major decline in its India collections, earning only ₹1.19 crore on Monday.
According to Sacnilk.com, the film’s total Indian collection now stands at ₹13.54 crore. The drop in earnings is attributed to tough competition from Bollywood’s latest blockbuster, ‘Chhaava’, which continues to dominate the domestic box office.
📌 Day 1 (Friday): ₹4.3 crore
📌 Day 2 (Saturday): ₹4.15 crore
📌 Day 3 (Sunday): ₹4.32 crore
📌 Day 4 (Monday): ₹1.19 crore
📌 Total India Collection: ₹13.54 crore
The film’s earnings were largely driven by English screenings (₹62 lakh), while the Hindi-dubbed version added ₹48 lakh. However, the Tamil version performed poorly, collecting only ₹9 lakh.
The Vicky Kaushal-led period drama ‘Chhaava’ continues its blockbuster run, crossing ₹140.5 crore in just four days. The film opened to a massive ₹100 crore weekend and remains the biggest Bollywood release of the year so far.
Additionally, the re-release of ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ has also maintained decent momentum, collecting ₹3.60 crore in its second weekend, pushing its total re-release earnings past ₹30 crore.
With both ‘Chhaava’ and ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ dominating the Indian box office, ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ faces an uphill battle to maintain its earnings in India.
Despite its lackluster India run, ‘Brave New World’ is performing well globally, having earned $192.4 million worldwide. The film reportedly had a budget of over $180 million, with an additional $100 million spent on global marketing.
Marvel Studios has two more releases lined up for 2025:
🎬 ‘Thunderbolts’
🎬 ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’
With mixed reviews and stiff competition, ‘Brave New World’ will need a strong hold in international markets to ensure its success.
