February 11, 2025: Amazon MGM Studios and Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine are in the final stages of casting for the highly anticipated Legally Blonde prequel series. Sources close to the production have revealed that actresses Madison Wolfe and Lexi Minetree have both tested for the iconic role of Elle Woods, a character that Witherspoon made famous in the 2001 romantic comedy Legally Blonde and its sequel Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde. Although no official decision has been made, one is expected soon.
The prequel series, created by Laura Kittrell, will take fans back to Elle Woods’ high school years, providing a deeper look into the formative experiences that shaped her into the confident and beloved character we know. Witherspoon, who is executive producing the series, has been actively involved in the casting process, reviewing audition tapes and expressing her admiration for the talent displayed by the actresses auditioning for the role.
In a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Witherspoon shared that the audition process has been lengthy but rewarding, with many talented young actresses vying for the part. “I just love them all so much, and they’re doing such a good job,” Witherspoon said.
The idea for the prequel came after Witherspoon watched Netflix’s Wednesday and was inspired to explore Elle Woods’ life before college and law school. The series aims to showcase Elle’s high school journey, providing insight into how the character developed the confidence, intelligence, and charm that made her an icon.
Fans of the Legally Blonde franchise are eagerly awaiting the release of the prequel, as it promises to delve into the origins of one of the most beloved characters in rom-com history. With Witherspoon’s involvement both in front of and behind the camera, the series is sure to capture the spirit of the original films while introducing a new generation to the power of Elle Woods.
