As L2: Empuraan and Salman Khan’s Sikandar gear up for release, Vicky Kaushal’s historical epic Chhaava sees its box office momentum stall, recording just ₹1.85 crore on Day 39.
March 25, 2025: Chhaava, the historical action-drama based on the life of Sambhaji Maharaj and starring Vicky Kaushal, is nearing the end of its theatrical run. After a strong start and weeks of consistent earnings, the film has now recorded its lowest single-day box office collection — just ₹1.85 crore on Monday, its 39th day in cinemas.
According to early estimates by Sacnilk, the Hindi version contributed ₹1.75 crore, while the Telugu dubbed version added ₹10 lakh. This marks a sharp 60% drop from Sunday’s collection of ₹4.65 crore.
Directed by Laxman Utekar and co-starring Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna, Chhaava currently stands at a domestic total of ₹585.1 crore nett, trailing Stree 2 (₹597.99 crore) by ₹12.89 crore. However, its hopes of overtaking the horror-comedy hit are now diminishing rapidly.
The major threat comes from upcoming biggies — Prithviraj Sukumaran’s L2: Empuraan, which opens this Thursday, and Salman Khan’s Sikandar, arriving on Sunday. Both films have generated massive buzz and are expected to dominate screens across regions, drastically reducing Chhaava’s screen share and walk-in potential.
Despite its robust domestic run, Chhaava’s overseas earnings remain modest at ₹90.5 crore, taking its global total to ₹785.5 crore — still far behind Stree 2’s worldwide gross of ₹857.15 crore. With limited runway ahead, surpassing that number now looks nearly impossible unless Sikandar underwhelms in the Hindi-speaking belt.
