Chhaava Box Office Triumph: Vicky Kaushal's Film Crosses ₹700 Crore, Poised to Surpass Stree 2
March 11, 2025: Bollywood’s Chhaava, directed by Laxman Utekar, has emerged as the biggest box office success of 2025, providing much-needed relief to the industry. Starring Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna, and Akshaye Khanna, the historical action drama has now crossed ₹700 crore worldwide, making it the ninth-highest-grossing Hindi film of all time.
On its 25th day in theatres, Chhaava raked in ₹6.25 crore nett in India, according to early estimates by Sacnilk. The Hindi version contributed ₹5 crore, while the Telugu version added ₹1.25 crore. This brings its domestic total to ₹526.05 crore, while its global tally stands at ₹705.3 crore.
Despite experiencing a 41.86% drop from Day 24’s ₹10.75 crore, the film remains steady and is expected to overtake Stree 2, which concluded its theatrical run with ₹857.15 crore worldwide.
Comparisons between Chhaava and Stree 2, 2024’s highest-grossing Hindi film, have intensified. Chhaava has been consistently outperforming Stree 2 in its fourth week, with stronger weekend collections:
While Chhaava has the momentum to surpass Stree 2’s lifetime India collection of ₹597.99 crore, its lower overseas earnings (₹85 crore vs. Stree 2’s ₹144 crore) might pose a challenge.
On Monday, Chhaava recorded an overall occupancy rate of:
Occupancy peaked during night screenings, reaching 13.90% (Hindi) and 19.66% (Telugu).
Produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, Chhaava is an adaptation of the Marathi novel of the same name and chronicles the life of Sambhaji Maharaj, the second ruler of the Maratha Empire.
Film critic Shubhra Gupta, in her review, compared its intense climax to Mel Gibson’s ‘The Passion of the Christ’, highlighting the emotional depth and brutality of the historical narrative.
With strong word-of-mouth and sustained momentum, Chhaava remains a box office juggernaut, with its eyes set on the ₹800 crore mark.
