‘Chhaava’ Director Laxman Utekar Decided To Remove Lezim Dance Scene From The Film

January 27, 2025: Maharashtra Minister Uday Samant recently raised concerns about a dancing scene in the upcoming period drama ‘Chhaava’, which features Vicky Kaushal as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. The scene in question, which depicts Vicky Kaushal dancing alongside Rashmika Mandanna, drew objections from Samant, who emphasized that it was historically inaccurate for the revered Maratha king to be shown dancing.

In response to the controversy, the makers of the film, after meeting with Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Chief Raj Thackeray, have decided to remove the dance sequence from the film. Samant expressed his appreciation for the decision, adding that the film should honor the legacy of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj with respect and historical accuracy.

Speaking about the film’s portrayal of Sambhaji Maharaj, Samant acknowledged the positive aspects of the film but emphasized the importance of consulting historians and scholars to ensure that the depiction is accurate and respectful. He had previously warned that if any objectionable content remained, the film’s release could be blocked.

Samant praised the initiative to bring Sambhaji Maharaj’s story to the big screen but insisted that the movie must be thoroughly vetted by experts before its release to avoid any potential harm to the Maharaj’s honor.

‘Chhaava’, directed by Laxman Utekar, is a period drama that follows the courageous journey of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, starting from his coronation in 1681. Despite the concerns, the film continues to generate interest due to its portrayal of the legendary Maratha ruler’s reign.
