Chiraiya Teaser Raises Marital Consent Question
Divya Dutta-starrer explores silence, trauma and societal norms
February 20, 2026: The teaser of Chiraiya opens with a wedding celebration before taking a dark turn, showing the young bride Pooja in a traumatised state with visible injuries. The series poses a stark question to society: if a husband forces himself on his wife after marriage, does it cease to be a crime? The official synopsis underscores the theme, stating that marriage is not a license and silence is not consent, positioning the show as a hard-hitting social drama.
Speaking about the project, Divya Dutta said portraying her character forced her to confront uncomfortable truths about relationships and the way silence is often normalised to preserve them. She reflected on how marriage is frequently treated as a space of unquestioned consent and how sacrifice can be romanticised to the point where pain becomes invisible. Dutta added that the story challenges viewers to consider whether protecting a relationship should come at the cost of ignoring injustice.
Directed by Shashant Shah and produced by SVF Entertainment, Chiraiya features an ensemble cast including Sanjay Mishra, Siddharth Shaw, Prasanna Bisht, Faisal Rashid, Tinnu Anand and Sarita Joshi. The web series will stream on JioHotstar, with the release date yet to be announced.
