Chris Hemsworth, best known for his roles as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the villain Dementus in ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,’ is in discussions to star in the upcoming ‘Transformers’ and ‘G.I. Joe’ crossover film from Paramount, as reported by Variety.
The crossover, initially hinted at in ‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts,’ was confirmed by Paramount during this year’s CinemaCon. The film will unite two iconic 1980s franchises on the big screen for the first time.
In ‘Rise of the Beasts,’ Anthony Ramos’ character, Noah, encounters Agent Burke, a nefarious government spy played by Michael Kelly, who reveals his affiliation with the G.I. Joes. This sets the stage for an epic collaboration between the Autobots and the elite commando unit.
Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura explained the organic integration of the G.I. Joes into the ‘Transformers’ storyline, emphasizing the fan demand and the careful planning behind the crossover.
If the deal goes through, this would be Hemsworth’s second involvement with the ‘Transformers’ franchise, following his role as a young Optimus Prime in the animated film ‘Transformers One,’ slated for release on September 20.
The crossover film will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, Michael Bay, Tom DeSanto, and Don Murphy, with Steven Spielberg and Hasbro Entertainment serving as executive producers.
