June 8, 2025: Just days after reports claimed that Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson had called it quits after nearly eight years together, the Coldplay frontman surprised fans by shouting out Dakota’s new film, Materialists, during a recent concert — sparking fresh rumors that the couple may have patched things up.

In a now-viral video shared by gossip page Deuxmoi, Chris can be seen addressing the crowd:
“Big love to everyone. Don’t forget to see Materialists. We love you.”
The brief but heartfelt mention left fans reeling. “‼️THEY’RE NOT BROKEN UP‼️” read the video caption, sent in by a concertgoer. The comments quickly turned into a debate: are Chris and Dakota still together, or is this just a classy show of post-breakup support?
Some fans argued that the support doesn’t necessarily mean reconciliation:
“You can break up and still be supportive. Look at him and Gwyneth [Paltrow],” one user wrote.
Others weren’t so sure: “They always seem to be on and off 😭 It’s really impossible to know.”
Just last week, headlines suggested their on-off relationship had come to a final end. Dakota remained tight-lipped about the alleged breakup during an appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, choosing instead to promote Materialists, a “rom-dramedy” directed by Oscar nominee Celine Song, and co-starring Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal.
The actress did, however, previously speak fondly about how she feels watching Martin perform live, calling it “emotional and beautiful” in a March 2024 interview.
While neither Chris nor Dakota has officially addressed the breakup rumors, the shoutout has certainly stirred the pot. For now, fans are left reading between the lyrics — and Instagram posts.
