Coldplay: Chris Martin Pays Tribute to India with Soulful Republic Day Performance
Ahmedabad (Gujarat), January 27: Coldplay’s lead singer, Chris Martin, delivered an unforgettable performance in Ahmedabad on Sunday, paying a heartfelt tribute to India on its 76th Republic Day. The global music icon sang iconic Indian songs ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Maa Tujhe Salaam’, leaving the crowd mesmerized.
The audience erupted into cheers and applause as Martin’s soulful rendition resonated with the patriotic spirit of the day. He concluded the tribute by saying, “Salute to Mother India”, and extended warm Republic Day wishes to all.
In a lighthearted moment, Chris Martin dedicated a song to Indian cricketer Jasprit Bumrah. Acknowledging Bumrah’s stellar performances, Martin humorously lamented,
“O Jasprit Bumrah, my beautiful brother. The best bowler in the whole of cricket. We did not enjoy watching you destroy England, wicket after wicket.”
The song delighted the crowd and added a playful cricketing touch to the evening.
This special moment was captured in a video shared on Disney+ Hotstar’s Instagram handle, with the concert being live-streamed on the platform.
Adding to the magic, Indian singer Jasleen Royal joined Chris Martin on stage for a heartfelt duet of “We Pray,” a track from Coldplay’s latest album, Moon Music.
Earlier in their India tour, Martin also gave a shoutout to Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan during a concert in Mumbai, further endearing himself to Indian fans.
Coldplay’s India tour included two shows in Mumbai on January 19 and 21, followed by two electrifying performances in Ahmedabad on January 25 and 26.
Chris Martin concluded the final concert by expressing his gratitude and love for the vibrant Indian audience, leaving fans with cherished memories of a Republic Day celebration filled with music, emotion, and unity.
