Colman Domingo Expresses Support For Eric Dane Following ALS Diagnosis

April 13, 2025: Actor Colman Domingo has expressed heartfelt support for his ‘Euphoria’ co-star Eric Dane, who recently revealed his diagnosis with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), a rare and progressive neurodegenerative disease.

In an interview with People magazine, Colman said he hadn’t had the chance to speak with Dane yet but was moved by the news. “I haven’t been able to speak with him yet,” Colman shared. “I just got the news yesterday too, and I’m wishing him well. I look forward to working with him.”

Eric Dane, best known for playing Cal Jacobs in the hit HBO series, disclosed his diagnosis publicly on April 10. Despite the challenges ahead, Dane remains determined to continue working. “I have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter,” he told People.

Dane emphasized his intention to return to filming ‘Euphoria’ for its third season, which begins production on April 14. “I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to the set of Euphoria next week,” he added, while also requesting privacy for his family during this difficult time.

The 52-year-old actor shares two daughters, Billie Beatrice and Georgia Geraldine, with his wife, actress Rebecca Gayheart.

ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, causes the progressive loss of muscle control due to the death of motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord. While there is no known cure, some individuals, such as the late Stephen Hawking, have lived for decades with the condition. On average, life expectancy after diagnosis ranges from three to five years.

Eric Dane joins a list of public figures who have battled ALS, including Roberta Flack, Kenneth Mitchell, and John Driskell Hopkins. The diagnosis has sparked widespread support from fans and industry peers alike.

Domingo, who plays Ali Muhammad in ‘Euphoria,’ expressed hope to reconnect with Dane soon and reiterated his admiration and support. The Euphoria cast, fans, and broader entertainment community now rally behind Dane as he takes on this deeply personal battle with strength and resilience.
