According to the Southaven Police Department, officers responded to a shooting call on Burton Lane and found Carroll with gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts by officers and medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. In an update shared on Saturday, police announced that a male suspect was in custody and had been charged, though his name was not released. “Our thoughts are with the family of Mr. Carroll,” the statement read. “Thank you to the community for their patience and understanding.” The investigation is ongoing.
The news has been met with an outpouring of grief from the comedy community. Comedian and actress Mo’Nique paid an emotional tribute to Carroll on social media, calling him her “brother in comedy” and remembering their “amazing time” on tour together. Carroll, known to his fans as the “Knockout King of Comedy,” had a long career in stand-up, with television appearances on shows like Showtime at the Apollo and a self-produced special, Knockout Kings of Comedy.
