
‘Conclave’ Wins Outstanding British Film at BAFTA 2025
The 78th BAFTA Awards crowned ‘Conclave’ as the Outstanding British Film of the year, cementing its place as one of the most celebrated films of the season.
The gripping political thriller, based on Robert Harris’ novel, had an impressive 12 nominations, including Best Film, Best Director, Adapted Screenplay, Best Actor, and Casting.
‘Conclave’, written by Peter Straughan, follows Cardinal Lawrence (played by Ralph Fiennes), who is tasked with overseeing the secretive election of a new Pope after the unexpected death of the Holy Father. As the Catholic Church’s most powerful figures gather behind closed doors in the Vatican, Cardinal Lawrence uncovers a shocking conspiracy that threatens the very foundation of the Church.
The film boasts an ensemble cast featuring Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, Lucian Msamati, Brian F. O’Byrne, Carlos Diehz, Merab Ninidze, Thomas Loibl, Sergio Castellitto, and Isabella Rossellini.
