Coolie Box Office Collection Day 1: Rajinikanth's Film Opens to Staggering Numbers
Rajinikanth’s latest action film has had the highest day-one collection for an Indian film in recent months, surpassing Hrithik Roshan’s War 2 in their box office clash.
August 15, 2025: Coolie marks the magnificent comeback of superstar Rajinikanth to the big screen. The movie has had a huge beginning at the Indian box office. The action drama with a lot of energy, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, made an estimated ₹65 crore net across all languages on its first day. This made it the largest opening for an Indian film in a while.
The movie’s opening comes at the same time as War 2, which stars Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, which is doing very well at the box office. War 2 had a solid beginning with more over ₹52 crore, but it didn’t do as well as Coolie’s all-India collection.
Coolie’s power was most clear in South India. The Tamil version of the film had a spectacular 86.99 per cent occupancy on Thursday, with night shows peaking at an astonishing 94.32 per cent. The movie did even better in the Telugu market, where it had a huge 92.10 percent occupancy. The Hindi version, on the other hand, only had 35.66 percent occupancy.
People have had conflicting feelings about the movie. Some critics said that Rajinikanth’s signature performance was too slow and that he “overindulged in mass moments.” Even yet, trade experts think the movie will keep making money during the extended holiday weekend, thanks to Independence Day and Janmashtami.
