Coolie Box Office Collection: Rajinikanth’s Film Faces Sharp Decline After Record Start

Rajinikanth’s latest blockbuster has grossed over ₹222.5 crore in its first week, proving its box office dominance with a record-breaking start.

August 21, 2025: The first week of superstar Rajinikanth’s new movie, Coolie, at the box office has been great, but a closer look at its daily performance shows a disturbing trend. The action-thriller had a great opening, but its box office statistics kept going down, which led trade analysts argue over its future.

Sacnilk says that the movie made more than ₹222.5 crore in its first week in India. The movie made only ₹6.50 crore on Wednesday, Day 7. That’s a big drop from its first day. On the seventh day, not many people went to see the movie. The Tamil version only filled roughly a quarter of the seats, while the Hindi and Telugu versions did much worse.

Daily Box Office Report

Day 1 (Thursday, August 14): 65 crore rupees

Day 2 (Friday, August 15): 54.75 crore rupees

Day 3 (Saturday, August 16): ₹39.50 crore

Day 4 (Sunday, August 17): 35.25 crore

Day 5 (Monday, August 18): ₹12 crore

Day 6 (Tuesday, August 19) : ₹9.50 crore

Day 7 (Wednesday, Augu 20): ₹6.50 crore On Independence Day

Rajinikanth’s best movie opening ever happened. A lot of fans were enthusiastic, and tickets ran out immediately. But on Day 2, the numbers started to drop, which signaled that word-of-mouth and mixed reviews were starting to affect how many people came to see the movie.

Sun Pictures made Coolie, which was directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. People think the movie cost a lot of money, maybe ₹350 crore. This isn’t enough for the movie to be a smash. The movie has made more than ₹400 crore over the world, making it Rajinikanth’s third-highest-grossing movie in India. But the big reduction in sales on weekdays is a bad indication.

The movie, which also starred Nagarjuna, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, and Aamir Khan in a small role, was up against War 2 at the box office. Coolie has stayed ahead of the competition, proving that Rajinikanth is still the king of the box office. But the real test will come in the second week, when it will have to work hard to keep making money at the box office.
