Could Brad Pitt Race Tom Cruise in 'F1' Sequel?
June 27, 2025: Director Joseph Kosinski, fresh off the release of his Brad Pitt-led racing drama F1, already has high-octane plans for a sequel — and it involves none other than Tom Cruise. In a recent interview with GQ UK, Kosinski revealed his “dream pitch” for the next installment: a crossover with Cruise’s iconic racer Cole Trickle from the 1990 film Days of Thunder.
Kosinski, who previously directed Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick, told Variety that the idea is to have Cruise and Pitt’s characters — Cole Trickle and Sonny Hayes — face off as former racing rivals.

“Who wouldn’t pay to see those two go head-to-head on the track?” Kosinski said, even referencing a legendary go-kart battle between the actors during the filming of Interview With the Vampire.
The director had originally hoped to pair Pitt and Cruise in his own version of Ford v Ferrari, but budget issues halted the project. Instead, James Mangold directed the film with Matt Damon and Christian Bale.
Although Pitt and Tom Cruise haven’t co-starred since 1994, the actors have stayed friendly. Cruise even made a surprise appearance at the F1 London premiere, posing for photos with Pitt.
Asked if he’d reunite with Cruise on-screen, Pitt quipped to E! News, “I’m not gonna hang my ass off airplanes and shit like that.”
Whether it happens or not, the idea of Pitt vs Cruise: Race of Legends already has fans dreaming.
