Hosted by filmmaker and talk show veteran Karan Johar, the show is set to premiere on Prime Video on June 9, with new episodes airing every Thursday at 8 PM. But even before its debut, the trailer has received a mixed bag of reactions, with a notable portion of the internet voicing sharp criticism and skepticism.
What is ‘The Traitors’?
‘The Traitors’ brings together 20 celebrities including TV personalities, fashion influencers, comedians, and even a poker champion, all set to compete in a game of strategy, deception, and betrayal. Hidden among the contestants are secret “Traitors” whose goal is to eliminate the “Innocents” and claim the prize for themselves. Each day ends with a dramatic Round Table discussion, where players vote out those they suspect of being Traitors — sometimes right, often wrong.

The celebrity-packed cast includes Karan Kundrra, Jasmin Bhasin, Raftaar, Raj Kundra, Uorfi Javed, Jannat Zubair, Elvish Yadav, Sumukhi Suresh, Mukesh Chhabra, and many more.
Backlash Online
As the trailer dropped, social media was flooded with backlash. Comments ranged from disappointment over content quality to criticism of the celebrity lineup. Some users dubbed the show a “bastardisation of Raja Mantri Chor Sipahi,” while others questioned its relevance and target audience.
“Same thing, old wine in a new bottle,” one user commented, adding that “Indians are fed up with content like this.”
Another user harshly stated, “Why is this being released to the public? This level of game isn’t normal.”
Despite the criticism, the show has sparked curiosity, especially due to its dramatic format and controversial lineup. As Karan Johar once again dons the host’s hat, many are waiting to see whether ‘The Traitors’ becomes a hit or fades into the clutter of reality TV offerings.
