March 7, 2025: Academy Award-nominated actress Cynthia Erivo has signed on to star in the upcoming action thriller Karoshi, produced by Lionsgate. The film, which blends corporate intrigue with a samurai twist, is set to begin production in June, as confirmed by Deadline.
Erivo, who has established herself as a versatile talent with roles in both film and music, will be joining a dynamic cast that includes Teo Yoo and Isabel May. While plot details and the specifics of their roles are being kept under wraps, the film promises to be a high-octane thriller filled with action and suspense. Karoshi will be directed by Takashi Doscher, who also penned the script. The film will be produced by 87Eleven Entertainment’s Chad Stahelski, Alex Young, and Jason Spitz, as part of their deal with Lionsgate.

This new project comes on the heels of Erivo’s busy career, as she is currently filming a number of high-profile projects. The actress recently wrapped up filming on the highly anticipated two-part Wicked movie adaptation, in which she plays the role of Elphaba. She will also appear in the second season of Peacock’s Poker Face, where she will star as a set of sextuplets, and is slated to play Jesus in a summer production of Jesus Christ Superstar at the Hollywood Bowl.
Alongside her acting career, Erivo has ventured into music, releasing a new single titled Replay, the first track from her upcoming album. Furthermore, she will be hosting the 2025 Tony Awards in June, continuing her multifaceted career both on and off the stage.
