Dakota Johnson And Adria Arjona-Led ‘Splitsville’ Sets August Release After Cannes Debut

May 01, 2025: Neon’s upcoming relationship dramedy Splitsville, starring Dakota Johnson, Adria Arjona, and Kyle Marvin, is set to hit theaters on August 22, following its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival’s prestigious Premiere section this May.

Directed by Michael Angelo Covino, who also plays a key role in the film, Splitsville explores the tangled dynamics of modern relationships. The official synopsis reveals: “When Ashley (Arjona) asks for a divorce, the good-natured Carey (Marvin) runs to his friends, Julie (Johnson) and Paul (Covino), for support. Their secret to happiness is an open marriage — that is, until Carey crosses the line and throws all of their relationships into chaos.”

The ensemble cast also features Nicholas Braun, David Castañeda, Charlie Gillespie, Simon Webster, Stephen Adekolu, and Tyrone Benskin, promising a multi-layered exploration of friendship, romance, and betrayal.

The screenplay was co-written by Marvin and Covino, continuing their creative partnership following their acclaimed 2019 film The Climb. Covino most recently served as executive producer on 80 For Brady, while Marvin directed the same.

Johnson, coming off the divisive yet culturally viral Madame Web, is set to appear next in Celine Song’s rom-com Materialists alongside Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal. Arjona, meanwhile, continues her momentum from standout roles in Disney+’s Andor, Zoe Kravitz’s Blink Twice, and Richard Linklater’s Hit Man.

Splitsville also reunites Neon and Topic Studios, who previously partnered on the 2023 cult sci-fi thriller Infinity Pool by Brandon Cronenberg. The film is produced by Covino, Johnson, Marvin, Ro Donnelly, Ryan Heller, and Emily Korteweg, with Paul Barbeau and Adam Paulsen serving as executive producers.

With its mix of emotional depth and comedic timing, Splitsville promises to be a poignant yet provocative look at love and loyalty — and one of the summer’s most talked-about indie releases.
