De De Pyaar De 2 BO Collection Day 1: Ajay Devgn's Sequel Fails to Match part 1 Opening Haul
Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh, and R. Madhavan’s romantic comedy sequel, De De Pyaar De 2, opened to a disappointing ₹8.50 crore on Day 1, failing to surpass the collection of the 2019 original and indicating a soft start at the box office.
November 15, 2025: The box office results for the first day of Ajay Devgn’s latest release, De De Pyaar De 2, suggest a lukewarm reception for the romantic comedy sequel. The film, which also stars Rakul Preet Singh and R. Madhavan, earned an estimated ₹8.50 crore on its Friday release, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.com.
The collection marks a lacklustre start, as the film not only underperformed against pre-release expectations but also failed to meet the benchmark set by its predecessor. For reference, De De Pyaar De (2019) collected ₹10.41 crore, including Thursday previews, on its opening day.
The opening day figures place De De Pyaar De 2 in the mid-range of Devgn’s recent releases, showing an improvement over his last outing, Son of Sardaar 2, which earned approximately ₹6.75 crore on Day 1.
However, the contrast is stark when compared to his earlier 2025 success, Raid 2. That film enjoyed a national holiday release and a strong critical reception, raking in a massive ₹19.25 crore on its opening day and quickly joining the ₹100 crore club.
Directed by Anshul Sharma and featuring a supporting cast including Meezan and Jaaved Jaaferi, De De Pyaar De 2 continues the story of Ashish Mehra (Ajay Devgn), who, after successfully navigating the age gap with his younger girlfriend Ayesha (Rakul Preet Singh), must now confront the challenge of winning over Ayesha’s “educated, progressive” parents (R. Madhavan and Gautami Kapoor).
Despite the strong cast, the low opening suggests that the film did not manage to drive high foot traffic on its release day.
Ahead of the release, Ajay Devgn had spoken about the importance of self-belief and instinct during promotional events in Delhi.
Ajay Devgn: “You really need to believe in yourself. You need to trust your instincts and keep working. I don’t think there’s a place for too much insecurity.”
The actor encouraged the younger generation to follow their passions wholeheartedly, regardless of immediate success or failure. The film now heavily relies on positive word-of-mouth throughout the weekend to drive collections and overcome its soft start.
The film’s performance in the urban centers will be crucial, as the romantic-comedy genre typically sees a greater spike driven by positive word-of-mouth throughout the weekend.
