De De Pyaar De 2 Review: Rakul Preet Singh Shines Like Never Before In A Breezy Rom-Com
The sequel takes Ajay Devgn and Rakul Preet Singh’s age-gap romance into new territory—winning over her ‘progressive’ parents (R. Madhavan and Gautami Kapoor)—but struggles with an erratic pace and plot in its attempt to deliver unexpected twist.
November 14, 2025: De De Pyaar De 2, the sequel to the 2019 romantic comedy hit, shifts the focus from winning over the older partner’s family to confronting the new hurdle: the younger partner’s parents. Directed by Anshul Sharma and written by Luv Ranjan and Tarun Jain, the film is a bumpy but breezy ride that attempts to explore modern family dynamics but often loses its comic timing and narrative thread.
The story sees Ayesha Khurana (Rakul Preet Singh) introduce her much-older love interest, Ashish Mehra (Ajay Devgn), to her self-proclaimed “educated, progressive, modern parents”—Rakesh (R. Madhavan) and Anju (Gautami Kapoor). The core conflict quickly crystallizes as Ayesha’s father, Rakesh, becomes vehemently opposed to the match, triggering a clash that forces Ayesha to choose between her parents and Ashish.
Despite the presence of two veteran actors, Ajay Devgn and R. Madhavan, it is Rakul Preet Singh who confidently carries the film. Her portrayal of Ayesha is credited for the right amount of spunk and effervescence, making her the most compelling element of the sequel. Critics note that the film smartly pivots to make the story primarily Ayesha’s, focusing on her clash with her father and her irritation with Ashish’s tendency to be too “mature.”
Director Anshul Sharma successfully navigates the film through its first half, but the review suggests his direction becomes “helpless” as the film goes astray in the second. The screenplay earns a crucial brownie point for an impressive and unexpected twist delivered late in the second half, a trademark of Luv Ranjan’s writing. However, the film is generally criticized for lacking the sharp punches and one-liners expected from the romantic-comedy genre.
Technically, the film benefits from Sudhir K. Chaudhary’s cinematography, which captures the aesthetic well, but the music by Hitesh Sonic is deemed merely “average.”
De De Pyaar De 2 is a watchable romantic comedy that relies heavily on the star power and the chemistry of its leads, especially Rakul Preet Singh. While the film has a share of memorable moments and a compelling twist, its inconsistent storytelling means its box office fate will likely hinge on positive word of mouth from the audience.
