Deepika Padukone Announces ‘Piku’ Re-Release, Remembers Irrfan Khan With Heartfelt Tribute

April 19, 2025: Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone’s beloved film Piku is all set to re-release in theatres to celebrate its 10th anniversary. The film, which was a huge success when it first released in 2015, will hit the big screens again on May 9, 2025. To mark the occasion, Deepika shared a touching tribute to her late co-star, Irrfan Khan, who played the role of Rana Chaudhary in the film.

Taking to her Instagram, Deepika posted a heartfelt video that featured Amitabh Bachchan, who portrayed her father in the movie, sharing his experience of working on Piku. The video also included emotional and light-hearted moments from the film, showcasing the memorable chemistry between the actors. Alongside this, Deepika expressed her deep admiration for the late Irrfan Khan, who passed away in 2020. Her tribute read, “A film that will always have my heart – Piku is back in theatres on 9th May, 2025 to celebrate its 10th Anniversary! Irrfan, we miss you! And think about you every so often…”

In her post, Deepika not only acknowledged the strong emotional bond she shared with the film but also reflected on how Khan’s portrayal of Rana added a special layer to the narrative. His effortless charm, paired with his understated humor, left an indelible mark on the audience, and his performance remains one of the standout features of the film.

Piku, directed by Shoojit Sircar, is a unique comedy-drama that delves into the complexities of family dynamics, focusing on the relationship between a father and his daughter. Deepika’s portrayal of Piku, a practical woman struggling with her aging father’s childlike behavior, was widely praised and earned her the second Filmfare Award for Best Actress.

The film also featured Amitabh Bachchan as her father, Bhaskor Banerjee, whose eccentric and stubborn character brought both laughter and emotion to the screen. Piku was hailed for its heartwarming and realistic take on life and family, making it one of the best films in its genre.

As fans eagerly anticipate the re-release of the film, many are expected to experience a flood of emotions, remembering both the iconic performances of Deepika and Irrfan and the unique narrative that continues to resonate with audiences.
