Deepika Padukone Expresses Disappointment Over Indian Films Being Snubbed at the Oscars, Recalls Emotional 'RRR' Moment
March 24, 2025: Actor Deepika Padukone believes that many deserving Indian films have been repeatedly snubbed at the Academy Awards despite the country’s rich cinematic heritage and immense talent. The actress, who was in Paris attending a Louis Vuitton show, took to Instagram to share a heartfelt video expressing her thoughts on the matter.
In the video, Deepika recalled the emotional moment when Indian film RRR won the Best Original Song Oscar for “Naatu Naatu” in 2023. While she had no direct connection to the film, she admitted feeling deeply moved by the win, stating that it was a personal and proud moment for her as an Indian.
“I feel India has been robbed of the Oscars many times. Many deserving movies, many deserving talents, have been snubbed,” said Deepika. She also shared her happiness at seeing Adrien Brody win Best Actor for The Brutalist this year, though her focus remained on the unrecognized Indian films that could have garnered more attention at the prestigious awards.
The video also featured clips from several critically acclaimed Indian films such as All We Imagine As Light, Laapataa Ladies, Tumbbad, and The Lunchbox. Despite receiving global praise, these films were not nominated for the Oscars, leaving many fans and critics wondering what could have been.
Deepika is currently in Paris for the Louis Vuitton show at the Cour Carre du Louvre, marking another significant milestone as the first Indian to be signed as a global ambassador for both Louis Vuitton and Cartier.
