Deepika Padukone's Insights on Motherhood Role in 'Kalki 2898 AD'
Mom-to-be Deepika Padukone dazzled at the ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ event in Mumbai on Wednesday, where she opened up about her role as a mother in the film. The ‘Piku’ actress appeared radiant in an all-black dress that beautifully highlighted her baby bump.
The event was hosted by Rana Daggubati, a close friend of Prabhas, who introduced Deepika with a playful jest, asking if she was still immersed in her character. Laughing, Deepika responded, “The movie went on for about three years. So I was like, why not? Just three months more.”
Reflecting on her experience working on ‘Kalki 2898 AD,’ Deepika described it as an incredible and transformative journey. “It was a great learning experience,” she said. “We went through different phases, discovering what the film was about.”
In ‘Kalki 2898 AD,’ Deepika portrays a pregnant woman whose unborn child is destined to challenge evil forces. The trailer reveals her character carrying the child, setting the stage for a dramatic and pivotal role.
Joining Deepika on stage were her co-stars Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, and Kamal Haasan. Amitabh sported a stylish all-black outfit with a striped jacket, while Prabhas looked sharp in a black shirt. Kamal Haasan opted for a beige jacket, adding a touch of elegance to the event.
Earlier in the day, Deepika shared a series of monochrome pictures on Instagram, proudly displaying her baby bump. In the images, she wore a form-fitting dress with a back slit, high heels, and jewelry. One particularly endearing photo shows her holding her bump, her hair in a messy ponytail, laughing. She captioned the post, “Okay enough…Now I’m hungry!”
The event also highlighted the release of the ‘Bhairava Anthem,’ an energetic track featuring Prabhas and popular Punjabi actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh. Both stars are seen in traditional Punjabi attire, with Prabhas donning a turban. Diljit shared a teaser of the song on Instagram, expressing excitement for the South-Punjab collaboration.
The anthem, sung by Diljit Dosanjh and Vijaynarain, with lyrics by Kumaar and music by Santhosh Narayanan, perfectly encapsulates Prabhas’s character Bhairava in the film.
Last month, a teaser of Amitabh Bachchan’s look from the sci-fi dystopian film was unveiled during an IPL match. The 21-second clip featured Big B in warm earthy tones, seated in a cave, praying to a Shiva linga, covered in bandages. A young child in the teaser asks, “Are you God? Can you not die?” To which Amitabh’s character responds enigmatically, “Since the Dwapar Yug, I have waited for the Dasavatar. I am Ashwatthama, the son of Dronacharya.”
Directed by Nag Ashwin, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ is inspired by Hindu scriptures and set in a post-apocalyptic world in the year 2898 AD. The film promises to be a visually stunning and narratively rich experience when it hits theaters on June 27.
