Delhi HC Dismisses Sameer Wankhede’s Defamation Suit
Court rules in Aryan Khan’s favour over Netflix series portrayal
January 29, 2026: The Delhi High Court on Thursday pronounced its verdict in the defamation suit filed by Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer Sameer Wankhede concerning his alleged portrayal in the Netflix series The Ba**ds of Bollywood*. After hearing arguments from all sides, the court ruled in favour of Aryan Khan and declined to order the removal of scenes from the series.
Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav held that the suit was not maintainable before the court and returned the plaint to the plaintiff, granting liberty to approach a court of competent jurisdiction. “The plaint is returned to the plaintiff to approach the Court of competent jurisdiction. Application of any stands dismissed,” the court observed, according to a report by LiveLaw.
With this ruling, the High Court effectively closed proceedings in the matter before it, providing relief to the makers of the series. The verdict marks a significant development in the case, which had drawn attention due to its connection to a high-profile web series and public figures.
