The acclaimed filmmaker behind Black Panther recently revealed in an interview on the 7PM in Brooklyn With Carmelo Anthony podcast that he has written a special role in the third Black Panther film specifically for Denzel.

“I’ve been trying to work with him since day one. I think he’s the greatest living actor. And in terms of what he means to our culture, forget about it,” Ryan said. “I’ve been talking to him about this for a long time, and I was surprised when he mentioned it. But it’s not like it’s not true.”

The news came following an earlier slip-up from Washington himself in a November interview, where he casually confirmed his involvement in the upcoming Marvel movie, despite Marvel yet to officially announce it.

“I want to do things I haven’t done,” Denzel shared. “After some theatre roles, I’ve been talking with Steve McQueen about a film. After that, Ryan Coogler’s writing a part for me in the next Black Panther.”

He later admitted on the Variety Awards Circuit podcast that he hadn’t intended to reveal this early. “I called Ryan to apologize,” he laughed. “I said, ‘I’m sorry, man.’ He said, ‘No, man, it’s all good.'”

This upcoming collaboration carries an emotional significance, as Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, who tragically passed away in 2020, had publicly credited Denzel Washington as an inspiration to him in his acting career.
