Destiny 2’s New Raid Sparks World First Showdown in Desert Perpetual

July 20, 2025: The Desert Perpetual World First Raid Race has officially kicked off in Destiny 2, marking a major milestone in the game’s evolution. Beginning at 10 AM PT on July 19, 2025, the raid is the first under the new Edge of Fate expansion, signaling the dawn of the Fate saga following the conclusion of the long-running Light and Darkness arc.

Destiny 2’s New Raid Sparks World First Showdown in Desert Perpetual

The opening 48 hours are governed by Contest Mode, a hardcore setting that caps player Power levels and disables select gear, perks, and mods. Items like Outbreak Perfected, Hierarchy of Needs, and seasonal mods such as Temporal Tracker are off-limits until July 21. Additionally, bounty and weapon XP for combatant kills are suspended, leveling the playing field for all raiders.

Set in the eerie and mysterious realm of the Nine, Desert Perpetual challenges six-player fireteams to solve complex mechanics, conquer punishing bosses, and coordinate under pressure—all with minimal guidance. The stakes? Immortal glory in the form of the coveted World First title and exclusive in-game loot.

Bungie is amping up the experience with a pre-show broadcast and Twitch drops like Power Hues and Golden Relief, available to viewers watching streamers such as CBGray and Evanf1997. Popular names in the raiding community, including aTides, Datto, Koregos, and Tyraxe, are already deep into the action. Early chatter suggests aTides and Tyraxe are leading the charge—though a late-stage wipe in the final damage phase could shift the race.

This raid isn’t just another challenge—it’s a symbolic moment in Destiny 2’s eighth year, highlighting the expansion’s revamped gear systems and balancing mechanics. These changes are already shaping the strategies teams must adopt to survive Desert Perpetual’s gauntlet.

Once a team claims victory and Bungie verifies the run, the raid will open to all Edge of Fate owners in standard mode, continuing the franchise’s tradition of elite players unlocking new content for the broader community.

With Contest Mode still active and the final boss fights heating up, all eyes are on the fireteams chasing history. Stay tuned to Bungie’s channels and community streams as the World First race reaches its climax.
