Dia Mirza Shocked As Stepdaughter Samaira Saved Her Number As ‘Not Yet Evil Stepmother’!
Dia Mirza Reflects on Her Bond with Stepfather Ahmed Mirza and Stepdaughter Samaira Rekhi
Mumbai June 01, 2025– Actor Dia Mirza recently shared heartfelt insights about her personal life, opening up about her relationship with her stepfather Ahmed Mirza and stepdaughter Samaira Rekhi. In an interview with The Official People of India, Dia revealed how her own childhood shaped the way she embraces blended family dynamics today.
Speaking candidly, Dia expressed gratitude for not growing up with fairy tales, which often paint stepparents in a negative light. “Thank god I didn’t read fairy tales growing up. Because those would’ve created a whole different set of biases. Stepfathers, stepmothers are always evil,” she said. Referring to her stepdaughter with humour and affection, she added, “Which brings me to Samaira, who has saved my number on her phone as – Dia, not yet the evil stepmother. That’s what fairy tales do, right? I wonder if she’s changed the description under my name.”
Dia also reminisced about her stepfather, Ahmed Mirza, fondly recalling how she began calling him “Abba” after he married her mother. “In my child’s heart and little mind, I was extremely accepting of him,” she said. Though Ahmed was initially not very expressive, Dia remembered how their bond deepened over time. “We managed to turn him into quite the hugger,” she recalled, sharing a poignant memory of their final meeting before he passed away in 2003. “I’ll never forget the hug he gave me and the tears he had in his eyes as he said goodbye.”
Dia’s parents, Deepa and Frank Handrich, divorced when she was four-and-a-half years old. At age six, her mother married Ahmed Mirza. Dia later married Sahil Sangha in 2014, but the couple separated in 2019. In February 2021, she tied the knot with businessman Vaibhav Rekhi, and the couple welcomed their son, Avyaan Azaad Rekhi, in May of the same year. Avyaan was born prematurely and spent two months in the NICU. Samaira is Vaibhav’s daughter from his previous marriage.
Dia was last seen in IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack and is set to appear in the upcoming film Housefull 5.
