Washington [US], June 29: Emma Stone has stepped up to defend her Eddington co-star Austin Butler after a viral moment involving a bee on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet sparked online chatter.

A widely shared clip showed Butler trying to shoo away a bee that interrupted their photo op, leading some to speculate he may have accidentally directed the insect toward Stone. But appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Stone set the record straight.

“He was trying to blow it behind me!” she said, adding warmly, “He is a sweetheart and a half—there is no way he wanted that bee in my face.”

Stone even joked about the possibility of their other co-star, Pedro Pascal, being the culprit behind the bee’s sudden appearance. “I almost guarantee you, if anyone brought the bee, it was Pedro. He probably unleashed that bee,” she teased, before quickly clarifying that Pascal is “so wonderful,” highlighting the close camaraderie among the cast.

Stone’s lighthearted defense of Butler echoes her long-held positive views on her male co-stars. In a 2017 interview with E! News, she praised their support, noting how some had agreed to take pay cuts so she could receive equal pay, emphasizing that “women, in general, are making four fifths at best.”
