Did Shah Rukh Khan Really Say, “I Don’t Compete with Anyone”? Navjot Singh Sidhu Recalls Their Epic Bollywood Exchange
May 30, 2025: Before Shah Rukh Khan became the undisputed King of Bollywood, charming audiences in blockbusters like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge, Devdas, and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, he was just a young actor with big dreams and unwavering confidence. Former cricketer and TV personality Navjot Singh Sidhu recently shared a powerful anecdote about a young SRK’s determination and vision long before stardom knocked on his door.
In a conversation with the Magic Moments YouTube Channel, Sidhu fondly recalled his early interaction with Shah Rukh Khan, whom he met in Lucknow after a cricket match, during the actor’s television days in Fauji and Circus. Sidhu said SRK was fanboying over him, while Sidhu himself was equally impressed by the young actor’s work on screen.

He narrated an insightful moment when he asked Shah Rukh about his future plans. SRK confidently said he was headed to Bollywood, prompting a concerned reaction from Sidhu.
“I said, ‘Teri mat maari gayi hai? (Have you lost your mind?)’ I told him you need godfathers in Bollywood. You need someone to support you. Your parents aren’t there, you just told me,” Sidhu said.
“I warned him, ‘There’s cutthroat competition. They’ll eat you like a sausage for breakfast.’ That’s exactly what I told him.”
But Shah Rukh’s response left a lasting impression on Sidhu.
“He smiled and said, ‘Sidhu saab, can I say something? I don’t compete with anyone. I am my own competition.’”
Sidhu praised SRK for his politeness and self-assurance, saying he remains the same humble yet fiercely confident person even today.
He also shared that Abhishek Bachchan, during a show appearance, echoed the same sentiment about SRK:
“Abhishek said, ‘SRK is the only guy who is not insecure.’ Only a man who knows he is like the Himalayas—unshaken by little things—can be like that.”
From being doubted as an outsider to becoming a symbol of perseverance and excellence, Shah Rukh Khan’s journey continues to inspire millions.
The superstar made a roaring comeback with Pathaan, followed by the massive successes of Jawan and Dunki. Now, SRK is gearing up for his next big film, titled King, directed by Siddharth Anand, and reportedly starring Suhana Khan, Deepika Padukone, Rani Mukerji, Abhishek Bachchan, Abhay Verma, and Saurabh Shukla.
