Diljit Dosanjh Defends Women Crying At His Concerts

November 16, 2024: Diljit Dosanjh’s Dil-Luminati Tour has continued to capture the public’s attention, with the singer recently kicking off the Indian leg of the tour. His Hyderabad concert, however, became the center of attention for more than just his electrifying performance. The singer took a stand against online trolling, specifically addressing a viral incident that occurred after his Jaipur concert earlier this month.

A video surfaced on social media of a woman crying emotionally as she listened to Diljit’s music during the performance in Jaipur. Sadly, instead of offering empathy, some netizens mocked her, making cruel comments about her emotional response. In a powerful moment during his Hyderabad gig, Diljit spoke out in support of the woman, condemning the trolls and offering a heartfelt message about the power of music and emotions.

“It’s okay; it’s okay to cry. Music is an emotion; it has a smile, it has a dance, it fights, it has a fall, it cries,” Diljit said to the crowd. “I have also cried a lot listening to music. Only those who have emotions can cry. I got you, I got you, don’t you worry about that.”

The singer then took a strong stand, addressing the trolls with, “Inna da apmaan karrahe ho, tussi desh di beti da apmaan karrae ho, main tenu das diya gal (You are insulting her, you are insulting the daughter of the country, I’m telling you).” He emphasized the importance of supporting women, stating that they are independent, capable of earning their own way, and deserving of respect. Diljit even shared a clip from the concert on social media, where he urged his audience to treat everyone with respect. The post was accompanied by the caption: “A woman who knows her worth doesn’t need validation–she shines bright enough to light her own way. DIL-LUMINATI TOUR Year 24.”

This powerful message stood out not just for its emotional depth, but for Diljit’s continued advocacy for women’s empowerment and dignity in a public space.

However, his tour did hit a legal snag ahead of his Hyderabad concert. The Telangana government issued a legal notice to Diljit, based on complaints regarding some of his songs promoting alcohol, drugs, and violence. The notice specifically cited tracks like “CASE,” “Panchatara,” and “Patiala Peg,” which were allegedly performed during his previous shows, including one in New Delhi. The notice urged him to refrain from promoting such themes during his live performances, particularly in the context of his Hyderabad concert at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

Despite this legal challenge, Diljit’s concert in Hyderabad and his ongoing Dil-Luminati Tour continues to be celebrated by fans who appreciate not only his musical talent but his authenticity and willingness to stand up for what he believes in—whether it’s defending a woman’s right to express her emotions or advocating for respect and dignity for all.
