Director Nag Ashwin Hints at a Longer Wait for Kalki 2898 AD Sequel

Director Nag Ashwin has provided a major update on the highly anticipated sequel to Kalki 2898 AD, revealing that the film’s immense scale and star-studded cast will likely push its release much further.

September 1, 2025: After the huge success of Kalki 2898 AD, filmmaker Nag Ashwin has been giving fans updates on the eagerly awaited sequel. These developments have made fans both excited and confused. He has said that the movie will “definitely happen,” but he has not been clear about when it will happen.

In a recent podcast, Ashwin said that the sequel might not come out for “2 or 3 years.” He said that the project’s huge size, which included complicated pre-visualized and action scenes, as well as the busy schedules of the famous actors, could cause it to be delayed. But this statement seems to go against prior reports from March 2025, which said that he had said filming for the sequel would start in December of this year.

The filmmaker also talked about one of the biggest worries fans had: that Prabhas didn’t have enough screen time in the first movie. He told the audience that the sequel would have “more of Prabhas” because it would mostly be about the characters of Karna (Prabhas) and Ashwatthama (Amitabh Bachchan).

There have been whispers about Deepika Padukone’s role in the sequel while all of this is going on. Bollywood.mobi, an Instagram page, said that her role would be cut back or taken away since she wanted to work shorter hours after becoming a mother. This allegation has not been proven. But the makers of the movie have said before that a lot of the sequel has already been filmed, and a lot of Deepika’s sequences were filmed at the same time as the original movie.

Nag Ashwin is still devoted to the project, even though there are conflicting reports and rumors about casting. He says that a lot of work has already been done, such as finding locations and writing music. The first movie made more than ₹1000 crore at the worldwide box office, so people are still very excited for the sequel.
