DreamWorks Animation’s ‘The Wild Robot’ Wins ‘Best Animated Feature’ At Critics Choice Awards

February 8, 2025: At the 30th Annual Critics Choice Awards held in Santa Monica, California, The Wild Robot, an animated film by DreamWorks Animation, triumphed as the Best Animated Feature. Directed by Chris Sanders and based on Peter Brown’s 2016 novel, the film captivated both critics and audiences, securing the top honor in a competitive category.

The animated science fiction story follows Roz (voiced by Lupita Nyong’o), a service robot stranded on a remote island. As she adapts to her new surroundings, Roz forms a unique bond with local wildlife and becomes the adoptive mother of Brightbill, an orphaned goose (voiced by Kit Connor). The film explores themes of survival, transformation, and the power of connection in an emotionally resonant narrative.

The star-studded voice cast also includes Pedro Pascal, Bill Nighy, Stephanie Hsu, Mark Hamill, and Catherine O’Hara. The Wild Robot has already received significant recognition, including nominations for Best Animated Feature at the 97th Academy Awards, the 82nd Golden Globe Awards, and the 78th British Academy Film Awards.

The 30th Critics Choice Awards ceremony, which was initially set for January 12 but delayed due to wildfires in Los Angeles, was hosted by Chelsea Handler. It saw The Wild Robot take center stage alongside other major contenders, including Conclave and Wicked, which each earned 11 nominations in various categories. In television, Shogun led with six nominations, while other popular series like Abbott Elementary and Hacks also garnered multiple nods.

As The Wild Robot continues to win acclaim, a sequel is already in development, promising to further explore Roz’s journey and her evolving relationships with the island’s inhabitants. The 30th Critics Choice Awards ceremony was streamed live in India on Lionsgate Play, allowing audiences worldwide to join in the celebration.
