Amazon Prime Video has issued a stern public notice claiming sole and exclusive ownership of all digital rights for the highly anticipated Malayalam thriller Drishyam 3.

The streaming giant warned that any third party attempting to deal with the film’s digital distribution—including SVOD, TVOD, and AVOD—would be doing so at their own legal and financial risk.

The move comes as excitement reaches a fever pitch for the third installment of the cult-classic franchise starring Mohanlal.

Amazon’s Legal Stand

In an official statement, Amazon Seller Services Private Limited clarified that its exclusivity is based on valid agreements with Aashirvad Cinemas. The notice serves to protect its interests against any potential unauthorized licensing or third-party liens.

What to Expect from ‘Drishyam 3’

The film was formally launched with a traditional puja ceremony in September 2025 at a law college near Kochi. Director Jeethu Joseph has teased that the upcoming chapter will delve deeper into the high-stakes life of Georgekutty.

Key details revealed so far:

  • The Timeline: The story picks up four-and-a-half years after the events of the second film.
  • Production Status: Filming has taken place across scenic and pivotal locations including Thodupuzha, Vagamon, and a final schedule in Ernakulam.
  • The Creative Duo: Producer Antony Perumbavoor confirmed the sequel was greenlit only after extensive discussions with Joseph to ensure the story lived up to the legacy of the first two parts.

A Global Phenomenon

The Drishyam franchise is widely regarded as a benchmark for the Indian thriller genre.

  • 2013: The original film became a massive hit, sparking remakes in multiple languages including Hindi, Tamil, and even Chinese.
  • 2021: Drishyam 2 bypassed a traditional theatrical window during the pandemic to become one of Prime Video’s most-watched Indian titles.

With Prime Video securing exclusive digital rights early, fans can expect the “Georgekutty saga” to remain a flagship offering for the platform upon its eventual release.
