Ed Sheeran's Bengaluru Performance Interrupted By Police Over Permission Issues
February 9, 2025: Ed Sheeran’s impromptu performance on Church Street in Bengaluru was abruptly halted by the police on Sunday after authorities stated they had not given permission for the event. Sheeran was seen starting his popular song “Shape of You,” but the performance was cut short when the police intervened within a minute, disconnecting the cables.
DCP Central Bengaluru, Shekar T. Tekkannanavar, explained that the police had previously denied permission for the concert due to concerns about congestion on Church Street. He mentioned that the area has seen multiple evacuations due to a high court order, which led to the refusal of approval for the performance.
While the police halted the performance, Sheeran’s team claimed the performance was a brief act and had prior approval.
This incident occurred during Sheeran’s ongoing India tour, with previous performances in Hyderabad and Chennai, where he had a memorable collaboration with music legend AR Rahman. Sheeran and Rahman performed a rendition of the classic “Urvashi” together during the Chennai concert.
Sheeran is set to perform in Shillong and Delhi NCR in the coming days as part of his India tour.
