Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’ Battles Below-Average Opening Weekend; Faces Monday Blues
January 21, 2025: Despite positive word-of-mouth, Kangana Ranaut’s highly anticipated political drama ‘Emergency’ has had a lukewarm performance at the box office. Released after multiple delays, the film collected ₹10.35 crore in its first weekend but saw a sharp drop on Monday, adding just ₹1 crore to its total.

‘Emergency’ Struggles to Maintain Momentum
‘Emergency’ opened on Friday with mixed enthusiasm, largely attributed to delays and regional bans in areas like Punjab, which may have impacted its overall performance. The weekend figures saw a slight boost with ₹4.25 crore on Sunday, but Monday’s numbers signaled a decline in audience turnout.
If the film manages to hold steady throughout the week and avoid a further drop, it could capitalize on positive word-of-mouth. However, a sharp decline into lakhs by midweek would be a setback.
Competing Releases and Lack of Upcoming Blockbusters
On the competitive front, ‘Pushpa 2’ has slowed significantly in its extended run, collecting just ₹65 lakh on Day 47. Meanwhile, ‘Azaad,’ which released alongside ‘Emergency,’ has underperformed with even lower box office numbers.
