
'Emergency' Day 3 Box Office: Kangana Ranaut's Political Drama Surpasses ₹10 Crore Mark
January 20, 2025: Kangana Ranaut’s much-anticipated biographical political thriller Emergency, centered on the life and tenure of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, continues its steady performance at the box office. The film, which marks Kangana’s directorial debut, crossed the ₹10 crore mark within three days of its release.

As per Sacnilk, Emergency minted ₹4.35 crore on its third day, showing a slight improvement from its Day 2 collection of ₹3.6 crore. The film had a modest opening on Day 1, collecting ₹2.5 crore. The cumulative box office earnings now stand at ₹10.45 crore.

On its third day, Emergency recorded an 18.96% occupancy in Hindi theatres, indicating a steady audience interest.
The biographical drama showcases the critical years of Indira Gandhi’s tenure, focusing on the Emergency period and events like Operation Bluestar. Kangana portrays the late Prime Minister, while an ensemble cast, including Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Chaudhry, Milind Soman, and the late Satish Kaushik, brings other pivotal political figures to life.

Anupam Kher plays Jayaprakash Narayan, Shreyas Talpade portrays a young Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Milind Soman essays Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, Mahima Chaudhry appears as Pupul Jayakar, and Satish Kaushik stars as Jagjivan Ram.
Critics have appreciated the film’s balanced portrayal of historical events. A Hindustan Times review highlighted:
“Emergency doesn’t seem to harbour a wish to whitewash or tarnish Indira’s actions. Kangana, as a director, has attempted a nuanced perspective. Anupam delivers a restrained performance, while the late Satish Kaushik proves his mettle in a single impactful line.”
With its steady box office growth and positive critical reception, Emergency is expected to maintain its momentum, resonating with audiences interested in India’s political history.
