‘Emilia Perez’ Closes The Night On A High Note With Best Musical Picture At Golden Globes Awards

January 6, 2025: The 82nd Annual Golden Globe Awards was a night full of surprises, triumphs, and historical moments, with Emilia Perez emerging as one of the biggest winners of the evening. Directed by Jacques Audiard, the film claimed multiple awards, including the prestigious Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, defeating strong contenders like Wicked in the final category of the night. The win was a monumental achievement for the film, which led the nominations with a record-breaking 10 nominations, surpassing Barbie’s previous record of 9 nominations.

The evening saw Emilia Perez cementing its place in Golden Globe history as it not only took home the Best Picture – Musical or Comedy award but also claimed Best Non-English Language Motion Picture, further solidifying its global recognition. The film’s lead actress, Karla Sofia Gascon, delivered a powerful and moving acceptance speech, touching on themes of identity, resilience, and resistance. “You can maybe put us in jail, you can beat us up, but you never can take away our soul, our existence, our identity,” Gascon said, embodying the film’s central message. Her declaration, “I am who I am, not who you want,” resonated deeply with the audience and underscored the film’s bold, unapologetic stance on self-expression and defiance.
