Emma D’Arcy Joins Tom Cruise in Alejandro’s Next Film Set For 2026 Release

April 14, 2025: “House of the Dragon” star Emma D’Arcy has officially joined the cast of Oscar-winning director Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s highly anticipated upcoming feature, which also stars Hollywood icon Tom Cruise. The project, currently untitled, is being produced by Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment and is slated to release on October 2, 2026.

D’Arcy expressed their excitement in a statement, saying, “I am delighted to be working with such extraordinary and exacting artists as Alejandro and Tom. They are the masters of their craft, and witnessing them in combination has been a privilege.”

The film’s plot centers around “the most powerful man in the world who embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything,” according to Deadline.

Alejandro G. Iñárritu, who previously earned Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Picture Oscars for Birdman in 2016, followed by another Best Director win for The Revenant, will return with what is expected to be a grand cinematic spectacle.

Alongside Cruise and D’Arcy, the ensemble cast includes acclaimed names like Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, Riz Ahmed, and Michael Stuhlbarg.

Tom Cruise, fresh off the buzz from the Mission: Impossible franchise, will also be seen at the Cannes Film Festival in May for the world premiere of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, screening out of competition.

Emma D’Arcy continues their impressive rise, having garnered consecutive Golden Globe nominations for Best Performance by a Female Actor for their portrayal of Rhaenyra Targaryen in HBO’s House of the Dragon. They were last seen on the big screen in Eva Husson’s Mothering Sunday (2021).

With a powerhouse cast, a visionary director, and a global star like Cruise, this new film is already being tagged as one of the most awaited releases of 2026.
